Hennessey 1,226 HP CTS-V vs. Bugatti Veyron For World Domination

Ask a car enthusiast what is the fastest production vehicle in the world, and they’ll all tell you the same thing; the Bugatti Veyron. With a sixteen-cylinder, 8.0 liter, quad-turbocharged engine producing 1,000 horsepower (or more, depending on the version), it is worlds away the fastest, most powerful production car on the planet. And it “only” costs about $1.1 million or so (again, based on the version you buy).

But being number 2 doesn’t sit well with some people. Famed tuning maestro John Hennessey, who has created plenty of his own uber-powerful automobiles, is throwing down the gauntlet to Bugatti. Jalopnik reports that Mr. Hennessey has challenged Bugatti to what may be the most epic drag race ever.

This whole thing stems from a comment by Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer, who in a recent interview said that the next Bugatti will be “faster than anything on the market.” That is a bold statement for sure, and while Bugatti is definitely the maker of the world’s fastest car, there are plenty of challengers looking to dethrone ze Germans.

Among them is John Hennessey, who responded with this statement;

If Herr Dürheimer wants to invite us to demonstrate the top speed of our 1226 bhp 4-seater (on the VW straight away at Ehra-Lessien), then we would be more than happy to accommodate him.

The car Hennessey intends to bring with him is a Cadillac CTS-V with the VR1200 Twin-Turbo upgrade kit, which boasts an incredible 1,226 horsepower and 1,100 ft-lbs of torque. Even in the heavy Cadillac, this is good for low-10’s in the quarter-mile and a 2.9 second sprint from 0-60 mph.

Truth be told, this showdown is unlikely to happen. Why put the reputation of your overpriced, oddly-shaped niche car company on the line just to appease some loud-mouthed American? Ultimately, Bugatti’s executives are smarter than to tangle with a Hennessey Cadillac. But it would be a pretty damn awesome drag race, wouldn’t it?
