Chris Spade of Mooresville, North Carolina had a goal in mind when he started his 5th-Gen Camaro build, and that goal quite simply was to have the fastest late-model SS on the streets. He says, “My objective with this build was to take the Camaro that I love and turn it into a monster.”
When it came to building his big-cube, LS “monster,” Spade didn’t plan on sparing any details or prisoners, “I wanted to have one of the fastest cars in town. Not only did I get that but I got a car that looks and sounds so powerful that no one dares test it. Objective accomplished!” he tells us.
With the help of LS and GM late-model motor specialist Texas Speed and Performance, along with PCM of NC’s dyno tuning and testing expertise, Spade’s 418ci LS mill makes exactly 790 rear wheel horsepower and 670 pound feet of torque. Helping the ProCharged 418 make big street power is a custom ground cam from PCM, a pair of West Coast Racing heads, nitrous injection with a 10-pound bottle from ZEX and ProCharger’s own F1-R unit with a ribbed belt upgrade. Spade’s 5th-Gen also makes use of a full off-road exhaust and 2″ long tube headers from Kooks, and the 700+ horse LS motor chases a built 4L80E transmission from RPM.

Our featured video is what Spade himself calls a “throw-together” piece, but Chris hopes to share more videos of his ProCharged 5th-Gen with us in the near future. From what we’ve seen so far, Spade has done far more than just reach his set goal with his bitchin’ late Camaro build. Spade tells us, “I wanted something that not only looks menacing, but has the sound and power to back it up.”
There are real performance gurus and then there are bench racers; with this kind of a balance of good looks and serious horsepower we think you can figure out just where Chris Spade and his 5th-Gen SS stand!
