Most of you LS-diehards are probably already familiar with the LS3 powered Rally Fighter built by Local Motors– a vehicle designed to be the ultimate on-road/off-road vehicle that can truly do it all. Recently our buddies at The Block made a visit to Local Motors’ mini-factory and test track in in Chandler, Arizona, and got some insider info on why exactly they choose to use the venerable LS3 in their vehicles.
The base of the Rally Fighter is a fabricated tube chassis not all that different from what you would find under a NASCAR stock car. Local Motors then equips the Rally Fighter with a serious off-road suspension featuring KING long-travel coilovers that deliver a full 18-inches of travel in the front, and 22-inches in the back. The E-Rod LS3 uses CTS-V accessories, and even employs the use of air conditioning. A tough 4-speed 4L85E trans transfers the 430 horsepower to only the rear Goodyear Eagle MTR Tires.
There are two things we find particularly interesting about The Block’s visit with Local Motors. First, how awesome is Local Motors’ test track? With plenty of places to let the LS3’s horses run, and even catch some air – someone please show us where we can sign up for a session of our own. Secondly, we really like the reasons Local Motors gave as to why they use the E-Rod LS3. Buddy Crisp of Local Motors tells the reporters from The Block, ““The Chevrolet Performance E-Rod LS3 has such nice, smooth horsepower, but the fact that the E-Rod package is emissions-compliant in all 50 states is what made it a big winner for us…When we tell customers it’s a Chevrolet motor their response is ‘Oh, perfect!’ because customers are familiar with and have trust in Chevrolet products.”
