Our hope is that everyone learns something from this video – and we mean EVERYONE! And why not, since there is so much to learn from every angle. Let’s break it down for you.

Street Racing is bad. Playing around is one thing, but reaching these kinds of speeds with other cars and busses around, well, just watch the video again to see why it’s not recommended. To do an inherently risky act in such a crowded space like New York’s Lincoln Tunnel takes stupid to a stratospheric level. Again, watch the video if you can’t imagine what could ever go wrong.

High speeds, lots of traffic, and no runoff areas, what could go wrong?

Apparently, New Jersey resident, Fred Ordine had successfully passed down the Corvette enthusiast gene to his son, Chad Quinones of Hewitt, New Jersey. The elder enthusiast was driving a C6 Corvette while the younger Chad was in what appears to be a later-model C4.

The video begins with Chad turning the C4 to go into the Lincoln Tunnel. The tunnel proceeds under the Hudson River and links New Jersey to Manhattan with two lanes each way. Arrow-straight and two lanes deep below the prying eyes of the local constabulary, you can see how tempting it might be to play around a little. Problem is, you’re not alone. The girth of the tunnel is touchy at best when you have just two cars beside each other, or as Chad soon finds out, gets equally narrow when you try to drive a Corvette through it sideways. To add to the ever-growing list of issues, anything remotely considered a run-off lane is perpendicular to the road’s surface.

So, Chad and dad drive their Corvettes down into the tunnel, and after passing several cars and busses, figure their alone enough to do some Fast and Furious moves. I mean, what could go wrong? It’s not certain who shot the first salvo of speed, but right about the NY/NJ fifty-yard line, the road opens up and the two cars are moving!

Chad’s dad starts working his way up the left lane, only to find it filled with other cars. He brakes, and it appears he tags Chad’s C4 as he tries to swerve to keep from rear-ending the innocent bystander’s car.

Whether due to a quite-literal case of tunnel vision, or a severe overestimation of his C6’s braking, the elder of the two gains more ground on the fast-approaching rear bumper of the car in front of him until a decision has to be made. He throws out the anchor and tries to thread the needle between the car in front’s bumper and where his son just left in the other lane. Living out the same “oh-no-no-second”, the son cuts power and gives dad just enough fiberglass to put the C4 into a tailspin, which then collects the other car that dad was trying so hard not to introduce to his insurance agent.

As a testament to how fast this duo of lunacy was traveling, even sideways, his brake lights most-assuredly brighter than they’d ever been before and likely praying to some higher power, Chad’s C4 still collects yet another innocent bystander’s car that was traveling at a safe speed quite a distance away. Chad’s dashcam gives us a nice 180-degree tour of the passenger’s side of this car and does two pirouettes before coming to a stop, crossways in front of the car.

But Wait, There’s More!

As if we hadn’t blotted off enough boxes to win at Idiot Bingo, the younger Corvette dude decides to run away and let dad explain to the ever-growing stack of angry New Yorkers how cool this sounded in their heads. We’d like to say, that even though the thought process has been pretty blurry throughout this entire father/son outing, this may have been the stupidest thing junior could have done. The fact that you’ve got some moving pictures to go along with this text will prove otherwise. To his defense, or perhaps he figured out that dad might need a ride home, Chad swings back around to see how dad is doing. Of course, there are some folks there who want to speak to him as well. In the end, they gave him receipts for leaving the scene, careless driving, and failure to exhibit registration.

We question his thinking when we read about him leaving the scene, but had serious doubts about his sanity when we came across this video that he posted on his Instagram account about six, or seven-months later! Someone must have said something or he came to his senses, as the video was soon removed, but not before folks plopped it onto other accounts.

The NYPD vehicle at the tunnel entrance is not a good omen. After cars started backing up, he likely had a hard time getting to Chad or his dad.

Of course, if it’s on the internet, it must be true, which means the boys in blue were again, interested in talking with both Chad and his dad. The police re-opened the case and arrested both father and son. They were both charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and an illegal speed contest and are currently awaiting arraignment in Manhattan criminal court.
