If you ever played with Hot Wheels growing up, you had your favorites. There is no telling how many hours were invested, lining them up a racing time and time again. The imagination is a great thing. Unlike the real world, with the tiny toys, it didn’t matter if you lined up a crazy combination like a top fuel car against a street car. The race was on, and who knew which car would prevail.

As we searched the YouTube channels, we ran across a video that made us feel like a kid again playing with toy cars. The Honnigan video doesn’t showcase a Fuel car against a Camaro, but it is one of the wildest matchups we have seen. The guys decided to have a battle royal at the drag strip with a ’55 Chevrolet LS-powered gasser against a Monster Truck.

As a kid, this type of race makes total sense. However, when the Hoonigan video starts and you see the vast size difference between the vehicles, one starts to wonder about all kinds of hazards. Our now-adult brain immediately thought about the maneuverability of the mammoth truck, braking power, and the idea of jumping the ’55 if it happened to get in the way of the 66-inch tires. When seeing this matchup sitting side by side, a quote from Uncle Dale comes to mind, “safety third.”

Son Uva Digger is driven by Ryan Anderson, who is the son of monster truck superhero Dennis Anderson. This 1,500 horsepower beast is powered by a blown Chevrolet Big Block that weighs in at about 12,000-pounds. While 1,500 horses sound like a lot of power, when combined with the weight of the monster, it seems less impressive. But, how would it fare against the ’55 in a drag race? To be honest, it’s about as expected. The old ’55 Chevy has an advantage in the weight and power ratio and is fast. However, we were blown away at how quick the Monster Truck is on the dragstrip. Launching the beast is nothing short of unbelievable as the truck leaps out and commences to spin the tires while bouncing all over the place.

In the end, the supercharged LS-powered ’55 easily won two out of the three races. However, we did learn that monster trucks are a lot quicker than we thought, and you wouldn’t want to sleep on it if you line up against one. Shout out to Hoonigan for lining this pair up and allowing us to relive our childhood with this monster match up.
