Battle of the builders is a competition put on by SEMA featuring both customizers and builders to showcase their talents and craftsmanship. The stage for this competition is set at the world’s largest aftermarket automotive show, the SEMA show.
One of the contestants for 2019 is Preston Folkestad of Creative Werks Inc., which is an exclusive partner with GC Cooling. GC Cooling manufactures a wide range of high-performance solutions for automotive, specialty vehicle, truck, bus, Powersports, heat exchanger, mobile cooling, and off-highway applications. Preston is entering the SEMA Battle Of The builder’s Young Guns competition with his 1984 C10 that will be showcasing Creative Werk’s abilities along with GC Cooling products.
An all-aluminum 427 LSR Concept Performance block will power this monster in the making from Concept Performance along with a set of Frankenstein heads. To top off the all-aluminum 427, a billet Frankenstein Freak Show intake was installed. The 427 is projected to make around 900 horsepower and will be mated to a TREMEC 6-speed transmission.
Preston says that the interior of the C10 to be very race-inspired, meaning that it will feature a simplified dash with a Holley Dominator system. The interior will feature custom inserts made out of CNC aluminum to add more flavor in the build. Preston brought the roll cage out to the back of the truck and tied it to the frame, adding more rigidity, thus making it handle better. The C10 is equipped with a Fuel Safe fuel cell for safety.
Preston’s goal for the truck is to inspire the younger generation to become more involved in the automotive industry. He feels like the younger generation is getting detached from the automotive side of things and is doing his best to bring that pride and excitement back into this generation of the automotive enthusiast with this unique build.
