We all love being in our Corvettes, but finding yourself snuggled between the sun and your Corvette’s transmission tunnel can be a less-than-cool experience. To make the Corvette ride as low as it does, Chevrolet made use of the space in the center of the car, and wedged the exhaust system into the available space just below the driveshaft. This puts the exhaust system further from the ground, but closer to you, and that’s exactly why you need Design Engineering Inc.’s transmission tunnel plate heat shield kit.
The driveshaft rides above the exhaust, deep within the transmission tunnel, and the heat from the exhaust and catalytic converters is separated from the driveshaft (and the interior of the vehicle) by a plate bolted into the transmission tunnel. While this does a fair job at limiting the extreme, radiating heat from the exhaust, over time, heat soak takes over, and the heat from underneath the car can be felt inside the cabin.
