Superchargers have recently been a big hit on the new 5th generation Camaros. But why does it seem that turbos come by few and far between? Well, the answer to that question is simply due to the fact that nobody has been able to perfect the setup. Recently however, technicians have been hard at work to solve this issue and provide Camaro enthusiasts with a healthy alternative to a supercharger. We found this cool tidbit over at Camaro5.
IPS has been experimenting with different combinations to get the most efficient power out of the Camaro’s 6.2 Liter LS3, and recently, they proudly came out to inform us that their prototype twin turbo kit has produced an astounding 795 horsepower at the crankshaft on a factory built engine. the chassis dyno test was run in less than perfect conditions with high temperatures and even higher humidity. However, the prototype still managed to give the computer a readout of 663 ponies at the rear wheels with 649ft-lbs of torque on pump gas with 8psi of boost. While experimenting, technicians lowered the boost to just 5psi and still managed a rear wheel horsepower rating of 581 with 564 ft. lbs. of torque.
