Fingers crossed, but that might not buff out… After just being released with the highly limited quota of 650 cars total (500 of which were to reside in the States), this Z06 C7.R-edition is the first to meet a gruesome end. This video could easily be the most gut-wrenching thing you’ll see – and hear – all week.
Details surrounding the crash are limited, but what is for certain is that the incident occurred in Katy, Texas (about 15 miles west of Houston) when the car was sent off from the dealership to receive window tint. There’s a few different alterations to the story – some placing a dealership attendant behind the wheel, others claiming that an associate at the tint shop was to blame – but the most viable (and tragic) comes from Digital Corvettes Forum-member ‘Matchframe’.
According to him or her, “The story is that this guy waited one year to get this C7.R Corvette – it never made it past the make-ready department. [It was] totaled in five minutes and [put the] driver in the hospital. The customer never even saw his car.” But for the sake of the undoubtedly-distraught owner, we’re relieved to have heard rumors that the dealer has already found a replacement C7.R.
All the safety features in the world can’t remedy irresponsibility; and with a car so brutally powerful, this sort of tragedy is all but inevitable. Sadly, then, we’ll hold our breath for when the next C7.R-edition meets a similar fate.
