Behind the potent 427 LSX combo is a Hughes Performance-built Powerglide with a PTC converter and Circle D flex plate. The intake you see here was built by Blake Hughes at 417 Motorsports.
Coming from a family full of Chevelle owners, Nathan Van Tol’s goal, it seems, is to have the fastest Chevelle in the family, but also possibly run a few PSCA events, or the new northwest drag tour. He hopes to run in the 8.50s once the car is all sorted out, but still enjoy it on the street.
To make all this possible, the Chevelle has a Late Model Engines-built 427 using an LSX block, a Callies DragonSlayer crank, Oliver billet I-Beam connecting rods, and Wiseco/LME pistons. A custom LME cam lives inside, along with Lunati link-bar lifters, while a pair of Mast 285cc heads play host to Crower Pro Shaft roller rockers. Up top is a 417 Motorsports intake with both 160 lb/hr and 83 lb/hr injectors fed by twin Holley Dominator fuel pumps.

The plan is for the car to have a stereo and A/C to make sure the car is as enjoyable on the street as it is at the track.
To get him to the 8.50s, though, the combination will need a little boost…well, a good amount of boost, at least. To accomplish that, the car’s LSX combo will benefit from a pair of Precision 7275 turbochargers. The car is currently at Matt’s Fab Shop in northern California as Matt Marron finishes up the turbo system’s cold side, along with tidying up some wiring, and last minute details.
Van Tol hopes to have the Chevelle up and running in a few weeks. After he gets the car sorted out, look for an update right here, and probably on the Bullet, as well.

TRZ Motorsports components abound throughout the Chevelle’s chassis. The TRZ 9-inch housing uses a Moser aluminum center section and 35-spline axles, while Chris Alston VariShock double-adjustable shocks live at each corner.
