While John Schnatter is best known for his home-grown pizza business, Papa John’s, automotive enthusiasts might recognize him for another reason. That’s because Schnatter, after all, is a car nut and just a few years ago reunited with the ‘71 Camaro Z28 that he sold back in 1983 to start his business. Now that Schnatter is doing well for himself, his dedication to his business and his Camaro continue to grow, as WLKY TV shows us above.

Papa John may have pizza constantly on the brain but on May 26th, it was the military and their families that took top priority as Schnatter honored American troops at the Coca-Cola 600. Not only did Schnatter end up feeding all the military members that showed up for the “Welcome Home” event, he also awed fans with a look at his 1971 Camaro.
Powered by a Mast Motorsports LS3 416 Black Label Supercharged engine, which was recently installed in the Camaro, Schnatter’s Chevy features a balanced and blueprinted LS3 block, Mahle forged pistons, a Callies Compstar crank and rods, ARP bolts, a Mast Motorsports LS3 custom cast and ported heads, and a Whipple 2.9L supercharger. This combination gives the classic Camaro 800hp.
In addition to displaying the car at the event, Schnatter took the car down the drag strip for some serious racing against Charlotte Motor Speedway president and general manager Marcus Smith. Paired against Smith’s modern Mustang, Schnatter’s Camaro flew down the quarter mile like a rocket, hitting the speed traps at 136mph for a time of just 9.855 seconds. How’s that for a quick delivery time?
