If you are looking to step up your launch game, a two-step is definitely worth the investment. This handy little device will not only get you noticed at the strip with all of the cool noises, but it will also aid in quicker launches and consistent sixty-foot times.
In the video above Logan Tarrant, of the Youtube channel, Clapd Out shows us how to complete this simple installation on his LS-swapped 240SX. The MSD (PN 8733) 2-Step Launch Control, is designed for the LS engine and is a direct plugin. It plugs into the existing factory wiring harness and is compatible with the 24x and 58x trigger wheels in the LS.
For the installation, unplug the factory coils on each side of the engine and then plug them back into the box. Then you will need to figure out if you are going to engage the unit by ground or by a 12-volts and attach the activation wire. The rpm settings are adjustable from 1,000 – 10,900 rpm, in 100 and 1000 rpm increments. The rpm setting will be determined by things like traction, stall speed, or the best launch rpm for your car. After you adjust the rpm settings, you are ready to rock. When you stage the vehicle and engage the MSD 2-Step Launch Control, the device will limit the engine rpm to your setting every time you launch the vehicle.
The LS 2-Step also has a built-in rpm drop circuit that will eliminate the low rpm from being initiated during gear changes if it is attached to the clutch switch. According to MSD, the unit must detect an rpm drop of more than 1/3 the set amount to engage. This means if the limit is set at 3,000 rpm, the box will not activate unless it recognizes a drop of 1,000 rpm or more.
If you are looking for looking for faster and more consistent et’s check out the MSD 2-Step Launch Control for the LS. It will help you in your venture while making all of the cool popping noise as well.
