We’ve seen some pretty fast and badass Volvos’ here on LSXMAG. Like this tube-chassis’d LSX swapped Volvo wagon, or this 5.3 LS swapped ’81 Volvo 245 DL. The cycle continues with another YouTube video from 1320video and their awesome coverage at the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack, which is a 1/2 mile event held by SHIFT-S3CTOR.
The Volvo in the video we’re discussing today (dubbed by the owner as “Mother F’er Jones”), is powered by a 6.0 liter LQ4 swapped V8. The LQ4 is a popular engine due to its iron block construction. The stouter block is a favorite of enthusiasts looking to add forced induction to their LS swapped combination.
The LQ4 in this Volvo utilizes a 70mm turbocharger, which was purchased from eBay. It's currently tuned for 11 pounds of boost, which is good for over 600 horsepower at the wheels.
The owner also informs 1320video that the car is using a GM Turbo 400 transmission, and an 8.8-inch solid rear axle from a Mustang. From the “FlexFuel” emblem on the car’s trunk, we can only guess this Volvo has been tuned for E85 fuel as well.
In the video, you’ll see Mother F’er Jones go up against some heavy hitters: cars like the Lamborghini Huracan, an 800 horsepower supercharged C6 Corvette, and a even a 900 horsepower supercharged C7 Stingray Corvette. Despite the fact that the rear tires were pretty much shot, and the car was spinning, as evidenced in several clips in the video, the Volvo was able to lay the smack down in every example in this video. There’s even a quarter-mile pass at Bandimere with a time of 10.641 at 134.2 mph. Extremely impressive.
