It took GM long enough to build a factory supercharged Camaro, though the end result was well worth the wait. With 580 horsepower coming from the Camaro ZL1’s supercharged LSA engine, this super-Camaro serves as an awesome basis for aftermarket tuner shops across the nation. And as they’re quickly discovering, there is plenty of room for improvement.
We came across this YouTube video of a brand new, bright red Camaro ZL1 being tuned by the fellows over at RPM Motorsports. As it turns out, just a few minor modifications really go a long, long way on the Camaro ZL1.
This video would have been worth watching for the sole reason that hey, it is a Camaro ZL1 on a dyno. This is a car that sounds friggin’ fierce under any circumstance, and hearing that LSA engine growl all the way to the redline is something special.
But RPM Motorsports was enlisted to make this crazy-powerful Camaro even more insane. Their list of modifications included a custom camshaft, longtube headers with a catted connection, a new supercharger pulley and a custom tune. That’s a pretty short list of modifications, but the effect it had on the Camaro ZL1 was huge.
At the wheels, this slightly-modded Camaro ZL1 laid down an incredible 718 horsepower and 696 ft-lbs of torque…at the wheels! Figuring for a 15% drivetrain loss, that works out to around 850 ponies at the flywheel. That’s a huge jump from the stock rating of 580. And this is only the tip of the performance potential of this incredible new Camaro. Who will be first to break the 1,000 horsepower barrier on a stock LSA long block?
