Some people just want to watch the world burn…rubber. Seriously, who can explain why anyone would want to take a car like the Camaro ZL1, which already produces 556 horsepower and 580 ft-lbs of torque, and make it even more powerful? Isn’t there such a thing as “too much power”?
The answer is, of course, NO. You can always use more power, which is why companies like Hennessey Performance Engineering exist. They take cars that are already-supercars, like the Camaro ZL1, and crank the volume up to 11. Why? Because horsepower – that’s why.
Take for example the Hennessey HPE700 Camaro ZL1, which boosts output to over 700 horsepower. So how do they do it? CNC ported cylinder heads to start with, plus a new, hotter camshaft,a HPE air induction system coupled with tuning and a fuel system upgrade. Those few modifications, along with an intercooler and thermostat upgrade, make a big difference to power output.
So much so that now the HPE700 can blitz down the quarter-mile at even more incredible speeds. The video above is just a test run, but the driver still manages to knock out a 10.82 at 131 mph. That’s wild…but not nearly as wild as the the HPE 1000 version with its twin-turbochargers and balls-to-the-wall ride. Yup, this bad boy isn’t even the fastest bronco in the corral. How scary is that?
