If you’re unaware who Matt Haugen is, he’s a U.S. Pro-Am drifter and the owner of his own company, Haugen Racing. He also owns the 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe you see pictured above. The car has been converted to a purpose-built drift car to compete all over the country in the Pro-Am series drifting competition.

Aside from owning his own company, Haugen has owned a few road race cars and various drift-prepped cars, including a Ford 5.0 liter pushrod V8 swapped S14 Nissan 240SX.

The Genesis Coupe you see above wasn’t always the 1,000 horsepower beast we see before us today. The car has actually gone through three separate revisions over the years, including various changes to the suspension and the body. The first being his daily driver with the occasional time attack under it’s belt. However, soon after, the car received it’s first engine swap: a 5.7 liter LS1 V8 with an upgraded camshaft. The second revision came about from the need for more power, which was accomplished when Haugen decided to swap the engine again. This time, using a 6.2 liter LS2 V8 built by CBM Motorsports. That combination was good for about 600 horsepower. Unfortunately back in April, Haugen’s Genesis Coupe had succumb to internal engine failure, which lead to the latest revision we see today. Down but not out, Haugen reached out to CBM Motorsports for the most current setup, which is a 4.0 liter Whipple supercharged 427 cubic-inch LS3 swap.

Haugen has attended numerous events throughout the year with the Genesis Coupe, and plans to close out the season strong. Haugen Racing is also currently working on a Liberty Walk wide-body equipped Nissan 350Z, which is being built for this year’s SEMA Show. You can check that out on his Instagram page here.
